The Weekend Edit: Conscious Consumer

This week’s edit takes inspiration from the Conscious Conundrum.

The Scent

Sana Jadin perfumes is the one to turn to if you want beautifully, sensual perfumes and an ethical business plan. I love their ethos and the incredibly high standards they have set for sustainability and the empowerment of workers. Every spritz of these perfumes, supports the community of their female harvesters in Morocco. The company mentors and supports the woman to become entrepreneurs with year long employment; instead of having inconsistent, low paid work, three times a year.

Yes it is expensive!!! But reading how they are supporting the woman who work for them and their drive to make a real difference, is deeply inspiring.

The Online Magazine:

Want to make better choices when it comes to beauty, fashion and food, then The Good Trade is for you. This online magazine publishes short, punchy articles, ranging from the best natural, organic mascara to inspiring female poets. It’s a great alternative to mainstream magazines. It has an American slant, but I love their passion and it keeps me inspired to look for similar UK options.

The Movie :

The Story of Stuff is crucial watching. Since it’s release in 2007, they have created a website, a movement and a few more animations. Their latest animation on Microfibres is super short and terrifyingly informative. This is the website you need for information and answers.

The Book:

The Weekend Edit: Conscious Consumer

Reading Naomi Klein’s This Changes Everything, really does change everything. She investigates the impact of Capitalism on the environment, as well as, the lies and falsehoods perpetuated by industry and governments. A book that will stay with you and impact every decision that you make.

The Sustainability Icon:

Livia Firth is quite possibly, the reason, we have become more aware of the devastating effects of fast fashion. She tirelessly supports causes around fashion, sustainability and workers rights. She is the:

  • Co-founder and Creative Director of Eco Age ( love their blog),

  • Founder of The Green Carpet Challenge (bringing ethical fashion to the red carpet )

  • and Executive Producer on the documentary: The True Cost, which delves deep into the devastation of fast fashion on the environment, the workers and consumers.
